Why us
An experienced advocate. Not another contractor.
You are about to spend serious money. The person across the table has priced hundreds of jobs. You should not read that bid alone.

20 years of construction, used on your side.
Micheal Spence has spent 20 years in construction — reading bids, running work, and watching homeowners lose money before a shovel hits the ground. That is the eye we put on your quotes. Not a script. Not a generic checklist from someone who has never priced a job.
Independence
We represent only the homeowner.
The Cost Whisperer does not bid the work and does not take a cut from a contractor. The review is free. Negotiation is optional, and we are paid only when the documented price or terms get better for you. If nothing moves, the fee is zero.
Timing
Review the bids before any contract is signed.
After you sign, leverage is gone. Deposits are paid, schedules are set, and every correction becomes a change order. A professional review before signature is the cheapest place to find a bad number, a missing exclusion, or a payment term that leaves you exposed.
Focus
British Columbia. Home projects over $50,000.
Province-wide in British Columbia — Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, the Okanagan, and the Interior. Renovation, addition, new build, or a major repair. Under $50,000, the money a contractor can hide is usually too small to justify a full negotiation. Over that line, it is not.
Fee
Free to read. Paid only if we move the deal.
The bid review is free. If you want us to negotiate, the fee is 10% of the documented savings, due only after the contractor agrees in writing. If the price and the terms do not move, you pay nothing.
Put 20 years of construction experience on your side of the bid.
Free review. Negotiation is 10% of documented savings, and nothing if the deal does not move.
